About Bankura Horse Statue

Bankura horses are about 6 inches to 4 feet in height. They have exceptionally erect neck and ears and look dynamic with their wide jaws. The eyebrows sketched on the forehead of the horses are decorated with Chandmala, making them look more interesting. Originally these horses were made in terracotta but due to its popularity they are now made in wood or dhokra too. This art form is practised in Bishnupur in West Bengal.

The Bankura Horse is the National Symbol of Indian Handicrafts.
