About Papier Mache

Papier Mache is made by pounding paper to pulp which is then mixed with adhesive and finally set on moulds to get the required shape and then dried. These paper moulds are painted with vibrant colors in Madhubani style.

The art of Madhubani painting, is the traditional style developed in the Mithila region, in the villages around Madhubani, Bihar. Madhubani literally means a forest of honey. For commercial purposes, the work is now being done on paper and cloth.
